Mzuzu International Airport Construction Project to Start in January 2018

Mzuzu International Airport Construction Project to Start in January 2018

The Malawi government will commence the construction of one of its major international airports in January 2018 as announced by Arthur Peter Mutharika, the president. The head of state announced to the citizens at Katoto Roundabout; while on official duty in the region.

Malawian government wants to boost its economic development, and one way through which this can be achieved quickly is through growth and development of trade. The transport network has been prioritized for easier movement of goods in and out of the country to facilitate smooth trade with the other countries. This is the major reason why Mzuzu international airport is on the top of the list on what should be achieved by the government in 2018. The airport will be fully equipped with all modern amenities.

The president has directed the minister of transport and public works that the construction of the airport should start in January 2018 without any delay. A site visit was done in July 2017 at Lusangazi. The Malawian News Agencies reported that Exim Bank of China has granted a loan of US $20 million for the project.

The government has some other development programs in the northern parts of the country to accomplish within 2018 besides the construction of the Mzuzu international airport. Another major project is the construction of Nkhata Bay-Mzuzu road which connects the northern parts to the airport, and the road is to be completed soon. The president promised an announcement of good news to the people of the North. He wished he could visit the road before heading back to Lilongwe.

The government is also planning to put some money in the renovation of Mzuzu University Library which was guttered by fire a few years ago to improve the level of education in the country. The government conquers with the notion that without the right knowledge to its citizens, the main purpose of Mazuzu International Airport construction won’t be achieved easily.

Majorly all these projects initiated by the government are meant to increase the rate of economic growth in Malawi and create more employment opportunities for its citizens.
